While most of us deliberate over finance options for a new hatchback, the world’s ultra-wealthy are signing off on hypercars that command prices in the multi-millions. These buyers seek exclusivity, uniqueness, and bespoke craftsmanship that sets them apart from the everyday luxury offerings. For this elite circle, a Rolls-Royce Phantom or Ferrari 12Cilindri simply won’t suffice—they demand vehicles that are strictly limited in production and often one-of-a-kind, commanding prices that dwarf the marque’s standard models. These are the 10 most expensive cars in the world, representing the zenith of automotive engineering, design, and luxury. Bugatti Divo – $5.8 million If the standard Bugatti Chiron doesn’t quite reach the rarefied air of exclusivity you’re looking for, the Divo offers a coachbuilt alternative that is arguably even more thrilling to drive. Named in honor of Albert Divo, a French-Italian racing driver who was a Bugatti works driver in the 1920s and a victor of the legendary Targa Florio race, this hypercar pays homage to Bugatti’s rich racing heritage. Under the sculpted bodywork, the Divo utilizes the same 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W16 engine found in the Chiron, producing a staggering 1,479 brake horsepower. While the 0-62 mph sprint is quoted at a blistering 2.4 seconds, the Divo’s top speed is deliberately capped at a ‘mere’ 236 mph. This is a conscious decision to prioritize handling and downforce over outright velocity. The absence of a ‘Top Speed’ mode and the addition of a 1.8-meter wide fixed rear wing, a larger front spoiler, enlarged side skirts, and wider air intakes all contribute to enhanced aerodynamic grip, making the Divo an exceptional track-focused machine. Visually, the Divo is distinguished from its more common sibling by a host of unique design elements. It features redesigned headlamps and tail lights, as well as a wider interpretation of Bugatti’s signature ‘horseshoe’ grille. Production was intentionally limited to just 40 units, and all were sold out on the very first day of ordering. What makes each Divo truly special is the near-infinite personalization options available to customers, ensuring that no two cars are exactly alike. This level of bespoke attention is a hallmark of the world’s most exclusive automobiles. Pagani Huayra Imola Roadster – $6.2 million For Pagani’s most discerning and affluent clients, the ‘Grand Complications’ division offers a playground for automotive artistry and engineering excess. This specialized unit is dedicated to creating bespoke projects in ultra-limited quantities, and the Huayra Imola Roadster is a prime example of their work. With only eight examples slated for production, each Imola Roadster is further personalized to the specific tastes and desires of its new owner. The car takes its name from the legendary Italian circuit where its chassis was meticulously fine-tuned. Power comes from a tweaked version of Pagani’s AMG-sourced V12 twin-turbo engine, now producing an output of 838 brake horsepower. This prodigious power is delivered exclusively to the rear wheels through a seven-speed sequential gearbox. The top speed is electronically limited to 217 mph, a figure that translates to a more rounded 350 kph for the metric-inclined Italians. Despite these monumental performance figures, the Imola Roadster is a featherweight compared to many of its hypercar contemporaries. Tipping the scales at a mere 1,260 kg—less than a modern Audi TT—it represents an engineering marvel of lightweight construction. This remarkable feat is achieved through the extensive use of exotic composites, including the impressive-sounding Carbo-Titanium HP62-G2 and Carbo-Triax HP62. These materials are lauded for their incredible stiffness, which plays a crucial role in the Pagani’s razor-sharp handling characteristics. Furthermore, the car’s aggressive aerodynamic package generates an additional 900 kg of downforce at track speeds, effectively gluing the Imola to the road surface through high-speed corners. Pagani Huayra Codalunga – $7.4 million The name ‘Codalunga’ might evoke images of a long-tailed fish or a character from a children’s cartoon, but this extraordinary machine has a far more sophisticated and historically significant story to tell. It all began when two very specific collectors approached Horacio Pagani with a bold request: they desired a ‘long-tail’ version of the Huayra Coupé, one that would draw inspiration from the iconic Le Mans racers of the 1960s. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these classic endurance racers were celebrated for their incredibly slippery and aerodynamic shapes.
After two years of dedicated design refinement and close collaboration with these visionary clients, the Huayra Codalunga was finally unveiled to the world. The aesthetic theme is consistent across all examples, featuring neutral color palettes and matte paint finishes. Inside, the cabins are appointed with a unique woven leather upholstery and aluminum components that have been meticulously machined from single blocks of metal. The homage to its racing predecessors continues with a distinctive four-pipe exhaust system, which is ceramic-coated to achieve a unique visual finish. In terms of powertrain, the Codalunga shares the venerable AMG-built twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine with the Imola. However, in this particular application, the engine is tuned to produce 829 brake horsepower, resulting in a top speed of 217 mph. Initially conceived for the two original commissioning collectors, Pagani ultimately decided to produce a further three examples, bringing the total production run to five units. A remarkable achievement for such a bespoke creation, all five Codalongas are fully homologated for use on public roads, though one must possess a considerable degree of courage to navigate daily traffic in such a precious and powerful machine. Bugatti Centodieci – $9 million For the billionaire Bugatti aficionado who felt their collection was missing a certain… well, more, the Centodieci represented the answer to their prayers. If one already possessed a classic EB110 Supersport from the mid-1990s, this new creation would feel like a spiritual successor. The wait for such a machine culminated in 2019 with the reveal of the Centodieci, a Chiron-based coupé designed to pay homage to the legendary EB110 while simultaneously celebrating Bugatti’s 110th anniversary. The Centodieci possesses a surprisingly distinct character compared to the standard Chiron. It features an entirely new roofline, a lower-profile front end, and a rear section that sits significantly higher. The iconic Bugatti horseshoe grille is downsized, echoing the proportions of the EB110, and the design is further enriched by the EB110’s signature five round air intakes arranged in a diamond formation. A long, elegant glass engine cover adds to the nostalgic aesthetic. Mechanically, the Centodieci is a beast of the same pedigree as the Chiron, powered by the formidable 8.0-liter W16 engine. In this configuration, the powerplant delivers an astounding 1,578 brake horsepower, propelling the Centodieci from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 2.4 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to just under 240 mph, and the chassis has been specially tweaked to deliver an even sportier and more engaging driving experience than the already formidable Chiron. Bugatti’s commitment to exclusivity is evident in the production numbers: just ten examples were painstakingly hand-built, and each carried a unit price of €8 million, with every single one sold before manufacturing had even commenced. Mercedes-Maybach Exelero – $10.5 million Imagine the scene: you’re the head of Fulda, Goodyear’s German subsidiary, and you need a vehicle to test a new line of high-performance tires. You need something substantial, heavy, and capable of prodigious speeds. Instead of simply choosing an existing super saloon from your parent company’s portfolio, you commission a one-off, $10.5 million coupé from Maybach. This is precisely what occurred in the early 2000s, resulting in the creation of the breathtaking Mercedes-Maybach Exelero. The genesis of the Exelero harkens back to 1938, when Maybach produced the SW38, a streamliner capable of an impressive 125 mph for its era. Tragically, that original masterpiece was lost during World War II. However, its spirit and distinctive ‘streamliner’ styling cues live on, reincarnated in the stunning form of the Exelero.
Despite its two-seat configuration, the Exelero is a leviathan, tipping the scales at 2.6 tonnes and stretching an immense 5,834 millimeters in length—making it longer than a Rolls-Royce Phantom. This generous footprint allowed for the bonnet to be extended to a length sufficient to play a game of tennis upon. Beneath this elongated hood lies a V12 engine that has been enlarged from the standard Maybach’s 5.6-liters to a commanding 5.9-liters. Equipped with two turbochargers, the engine produces a formidable 691 brake horsepower, enabling the Exelero to achieve a claimed top speed of 217 mph. While the car has graced the silver screen in various films and television productions, there were persistent rumors that it had
